 One Shall Be Taken
Matthew's gospel (chapter 24) contains verses on the second coming commonly taken to immediately follow after a "great tribulation". Christ teaches that apparently half of mankind are destroyed (where the eagles (vultures) will gather. Mat 24:28) and this would appear to move all of the "great tribulation" to the last part of the age just before the second coming. This is not actually the case, as whilst there is some disparity to be accounted for, the book still supplies a correct sequence of that which is the "greatest tribulation", that being more selective election under a broadening paradigm.
The relevant verses from the "Olivet Discourse" are given:

Mat 24:37 But as the days of Noe were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
Mat 24:38 For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark,
Mat 24:39 And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
Mat 24:40 Then shall two be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left.
Mat 24:41 Two women shall be grinding at the mill; the one shall be taken, and the other left.
Mat 24:42 Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come.
Mat 24:43 But know this, that if the goodman of the house had known in what watch the thief would come, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be broken up.

Notice that in each case, one is taken (dies) and the other remains (is left, survives). Does Christ save 50% of mankind? Are 1/2 of the world Christian? Never has that been the case,. the world is predominantly secular or of other faiths.
Note now that Christ later qualifies this division into halves with the parable of the ten virgins. (After a few verses exhorting His servants to watch properly for the end of the age!)

Mat 25:2 And five of them were wise, and five were foolish.

Mat 25:4 But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps.
Mat 25:5 While the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept.
Mat 25:6 And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him.
Mat 25:7 Then all those virgins arose, and trimmed their lamps.
Mat 25:8 And the foolish said unto the wise, Give us of your oil; for our lamps are gone out.
Mat 25:9 But the wise answered, saying, Not so; lest there be not enough for us and you: but go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves.
Mat 25:10 And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut.
Mat 25:11 Afterward came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us.
Mat 25:12 But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not.

Now, being a spiritual virgin is always a good spiritual state, compare this with the letter to the angel of the church in Sardis.

Rev 3:1 And unto the angel of the church in Sardis write; These things saith he that hath the seven Spirits of God, and the seven stars; I know thy works, that thou hast a name that thou livest, and art dead.
Rev 3:2 Be watchful, and strengthen the things which remain, that are ready to die: for I have not found thy works perfect before God.
Rev 3:3 Remember therefore how thou hast received and heard, and hold fast, and repent. If therefore thou shalt not watch, I will come on thee as a thief, and thou shalt not know what hour I will come upon thee.
Rev 3:4 Thou hast a few names even in Sardis which have not defiled their garments; and they shall walk with me in white: for they are worthy.
Rev 3:5 He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels.
Rev 3:6 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.

Again Christ states He comes "as a thief" and that there are a few servants in Sardis who are not defiled in their garments, they remain "spiritually chaste". In fact, the reward not to blot out the angel from the book of life is equivalent to not being "taken away" in the "greater tribulation" of the 24th chapter of Matthew's gospel (in the Olivet discourse) above.
Then half of Christ's chaste virgins exit the Laodicean amalgam, and the other half remain within it, defiling their garments as their fellowships fall to the first, second or third woes.
Then in Matthew 24, the Olivet discourse doesn't matter one bit concerning non-Christians, it only matters whether one is a wise virgin whose name will not be blotted out of the book of life, rather than those that remain in the Laodicean "Church" of the end - those that are shut out as five foolish virgins, those who Christ will not accept! To the wise virgins that exit the Laodicean amalgam to the collective of saints in the "church of Philadelphia", Christ will both recognise and confess their names (that He knows them) rather than as with the foolish virgins, to whom He will state "I know you not".
Those foolish virgins are equivalently blotted out of the book of life. In this manner they are "taken". Then "one shall be taken, and the other left". So shall the coming of the Son of man be. (And not the "great tribulation", which has lasted almost 2000 years so far!)
